Privacy Policy
Commitment to Privacy
Our ongoing commitment to the protection of your privacy is essential to maintaining the relationship of trust that exists between Bosnian American Institute and Voices of the Bosnian Genocide (BAI/VOBG) and all of our users, whether they be a nonprofit or other volunteer organization seeking volunteers (each, an "Organization or School"), volunteers belonging to such an organization, or volunteers with an individual account. This privacy policy (the "Privacy Policy") is intended to help you understand our online information security practices.
Information Collection
BAI/VOBG collects the following types of personally identifiable information directly from schools using BAI/VOBG: student first name; student last name; student/school official email address; password; IP address; grade level; and school. We may also generate a login ID for the child that is different than the child's actual name.
BAI/VOBG may collect certain non-personally identifiable information from visitors to our site, such as your IP address, browser type, domain names, access times and referring website addresses. This information is used by BAI/VOBG for the operation of the service, to maintain quality of the service, and to provide general statistics regarding use of the BAI/VOBG Web site.
Your Obligations
If you volunteer or sign up to help, you might have access to other people’s personal information. As part of the conditions of your agreement with BAI/VOBG, you agree to not disclose that personal information, copy it in any form, or transfer it to anyone outside of BAI/VOBG or its authorized information processors.
System Capabilities
For volunteers, we provide the ability to search for and review volunteering opportunities. Volunteers might also be able to view logged hours, ongoing opportunities, upcoming events, and other opportunities the volunteer is a part of.
Use of Personal Information
BAI/VOBG may collect personally identifiable information from volunteers or others who register for programs, events, mailing lists, and other activities that require us to know and preserve your identity. For instance, if you volunteer to help at an event, we will collect your name, email, telephone contact number, and other personal information. This information will be used only for the purposes that you designate.
BAI/VOBG also collects and uses personal information to operate the BAI/VOBG Web sites, Facebook pages, and other social media platform instances. We do this to deliver the services you have requested such as allowing you to track volunteer work hours, view volunteers and opportunities, sign up for new volunteer opportunities, and keep track of recent activities.
BAI/VOBG does not sell, share, rent or trade personal information with third parties other than as disclosed within this privacy policy. BAI/VOBG may share data with trusted partners to help us perform statistical analysis, send you e-mail, or provide customer support. All such third parties are prohibited from using your personal information except to provide these services to BAI/VOBG, and they are required to maintain the confidentiality of your information.
BAI/VOBG will disclose your personal information, without notice, only if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) conform to the edicts of the law or comply with legal process served on BAI/VOBG or the site, comply with a judicial proceeding or court order; (b) protect and defend the rights or property of BAI/VOBG; and, (c) act under exigent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of BAI/VOBG, or the public.
In the event BAI/VOBG goes through a business transition, such as a merger, acquisition by another organization, or dissolution or transformation of all or a portion of its assets, your personal information will likely be among the assets transferred. You will be notified via e-mail and/or prominent notice on our Web site for 30 days of any such change in ownership or control of your personal information.
Student Safety
BAI/VOBG complies with the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) to insure the online safety of children.
Student accounts on BAI/VOBG are maintained to track and manage volunteer work and assignments. In addition, under the Parent’s Bill of Rights for Data Privacy and Security, parents reserve the right to refuse to let us retain a student’s name, address, telephone number, email address, photograph, date and place of birth, major field of study, grade level, and enrollment status to BAI/VOBG. In such cases, you might not be able to volunteer.
